Will Ozempic Eat the Wellness Industrial Complex (plus Shopping, Beauty and..?!)

Marketers: Be very afraid.

On one side, AI is about to eat our lunch.

On the other: Ozempic is passing on lunch, No, thanks, don’t feel like it.

The more I read about Ozempic (and flirt with the idea of getting some off-label crap from a telemed vut then feel vain, pathetic, lazy, above it all, fearful, dubious, self-righteous and virtuous then do nothing, only to repeat the cycle sometime later in the month the more I wonder where it could all lead.

I did some digging based on some curiosity to see if there’s any early, anecdotal evidence that if the cravings are all disrupted and the reward system is disrupted, could all things “impulse” also be disrupted?

Reader/listener: I paint a possible future where this actually short circuits a lot of the industries built on want—and this is only a rough sketch.

I’m not a scientist or a researcher, not a doctor.

For a good layperson’s 101 on the science and backstory of semaglutide, see this episode of Maintenance Phase.

That ep also showed me I was pronouncing the drug’s name all wrong in this podcast recording, it should properly be pronounced as:

It is said: Sem-AHH-gla-tide not sem-i-GLUE-tide.

I feel so country. But also too lazy/busy/working mom/two dog household to re-record the whole episode.

Listen to my warning shot or read the transcript.

Some say it will lead to the end times, with everything from trolls talking Ozempic faces to multiple predictions about it triggering a Zombie apocalypse ala I am Legend (never saw it).

Others say it’s a wonder drug that has them off dopamine shopping, porn, sex, anxiety meds, ADHD habits, booze, pretty much everything. Which can also—ok—mean joy, beyond the 80s joy of “nothing tastes as good as thin feels” or “You can never be too rich or too thin.”

Hmm.. listen to my take and give me yours!

PS: Interviews coming in Feb on beauty, sustainable packaging, female founders, romance lit and so much more.

What do YOU think?
